Profile and Research Interests:

Dr Dvir Abramovich is the Jan Randa Senior Lecturer in Hebrew and Jewish Studies and Director of The University of Melbourne Centre for Jewish History and Culture. Some of the subjects he teaches are Introduction to Modern Jewish Culture, The Modern Jewish World and Israel, Israeli Cinema, Reading the Holocaust, Exploring the World of Jewish Literature and Jerusalem in Jewish Literature.

In addition to his extensive publications, Dr Abramovich has lectured in local and international conferences. He has published opinion pages in the Age and Herald Sun newspapers and is the editor of the Australian Journal of Jewish Studies, Australia's only professional journal devoted to the field of Jewish studies. Dr Abramovich has chaired sessions at the Melbourne Writers Festival and the Melbourne International Film Festival and is regularly interviewed on the general media.

Among his main areas of research are:

• Hebrew and Jewish literature,
• contemporary trends in Judaism,
• anti-semitism,
• interfaith dialogue, and
• reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians and Muslims and Jews.
